Roadmap
Carvographer isn't released yet. The pictures and 3D towns in the gallery are made with it today, but there are still things to put right and plenty still to build. Here's where it stands.
The Launch
Expected: mid to late November 2026
At launch, members make their own maps here on Arbitheon. Create an account and tick Email me when it opens on its Maps tab, and we'll tell you the day it does.
Bugs Still to Fix
The two biggest, and our first concern right now:
- Quays don’t always sit on the land properly where they meet the shore.
- Roads and rivers can run off ridges and over high ground instead of following the lie of the land.

Taking Your Maps Elsewhere
Sadly, many web-based mapping tools won’t import maps from anywhere else: they want to lock you in. We want your maps to go wherever you work.
- Export to QGIS: every part of the map as real map data you can open, edit and build on.
- Export to Campaign Cartographer 4+, if we can manage it.
- Export to virtual tabletops like Roll20 and Foundry, battle maps ready to drop into your game.
Towns
- Districts with character: old money and new, quarters thriving or going to seed, slums and grand houses, merchants’ streets and workshops.
- Castles with a keep, inner and outer courtyards, a moat and grounds.
- Walls where an army would really attack, carrying the scars of old sieges: breaches, crumbling stretches, houses built up against them.
- Aqueducts, canals, and terraces cut into steep slopes.
- Fields, pasture and hedgerows around the town.
- Burned-out quarters and ruins, the scars of old fires, floods and wars.
Kinds of Town
- Smaller maps: hamlets, villages and small towns, as well as cities.
- More kinds of place: river ports, crossings, fishing villages, mining towns, quarries, salt works, timber camps, mill towns, spa towns, mountain-pass towns, oases, castle towns, frontier forts, planned towns, pilgrim shrines, monasteries and army camps.
The Wider World
- Pick a landmass you like from a sheet of quick previews, then zoom from the whole planet down to one town's ground.
- Paint or bring in your own continent, and say where its mountains, rivers and forests go.
- Many towns placed across a continent at once, joined by roads and sea lanes.
- Fjords, deltas, river islands, sinkholes, and rivers with shoals, rapids and waterfalls.
At Your Table
- Battle maps: zoom in on any street, square or quay at the scale of your game’s table, with a square or hex grid over it.
- Share a map with the players at your table, showing them only what you want them to see.
- Fog of war: hide parts of the map and reveal them as your players explore.
Editing Your Map
- Move the lettering, compass rose and margins in your browser without redrawing the map.
- A full editor in your browser: place buildings and landmarks, draw roads, reshape coasts, hills and rivers, and the generator fits everything around your changes. This is a big one, so it’s further out.
Seeing Your Map
- In 3D, walk the streets or fly over the rooftops.
- People and carts in the streets, busy by day and quiet at dusk.
- A 3D view made for phones.
